LEESBURG, Fla. — Excitement echoed across the Beverly Shores Elementary School campus earlier this week as students, staff, and community leaders gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off a massive modernization project.

The long-anticipated overhaul will include the removal of aging modular units and the construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art site-built learning center. The upgrades are designed to better serve the school’s students and staff for generations to come.

“Are you excited to get this project started?” Principal Cindy Christidis asked a crowd of students at the event. Their enthusiastic cheers left no doubt that they were.

Joining Christidis at the ceremony was Lake County School Board Chairman Tyler Brandeburg, who praised the school’s recent academic success and emphasized the importance of investing in the future.

“Beverly Shores did amazing on their test scores this year, and I am really excited that we are going to be rewarding the hard efforts of the teachers and students with a much-needed modernization of the campus,” Brandeburg said. “Give us some patience as we do this over the next few months, and I know the end result is going to be something you guys will be very proud of.”

School board members, faculty, and students all took part in the symbolic first dig, with golden shovels lifting the first clumps of dirt to mark the start of construction.

As part of the modernization effort, Beverly Shores Elementary will be temporarily closed for the 2025-2026 school year. Students will be relocated to the Old Fruitland Park Elementary School campus, which will serve as a temporary home for one final academic year. The plan is for students to return to a newly transformed Beverly Shores campus in the 2026-2027 school year, pending construction progress.

The transition comes as the nearby NEW Fruitland Park Elementary School has recently opened its new campus. It’s a beautiful facility and something to be proud about.

With the future of Beverly Shores Elementary looking bright, we look forward to following along and seeing the finished product in the coming months ahead.
