Local Girl Scout is Driven by Service and Powered by Science

Stephania Martinez
I joined Girl Scouts because: When I was around 5 years old, I saw a group of Girl Scouts at the local mall and was inspired to be a part of such a great organization and make a difference in the world. So far, I have received the bronze and silver award, and I am completing the gold this year. My project is “healthy foods and a self-sustaining garden.”
I love volunteering because: I really like helping others and have been volunteering with my mom and brother at local events and school functions since I was little. I’ve learned that we can always do more for others to change the world, one action at a time.
My inspiration: My passion for environmental stewardship began at a young age during a visit to a local museum in Glen Cove, New York, where I was introduced to the concepts of ancient formations and preservation. This early experience ignited my interest in sustainability and instilled a desire to contribute positively to our planet.
If I could wave a wand and fix one thing: I would eliminate all pain and suffering in the world from illnesses, chronic diseases, discrimination and those affected by conflict. My sincere desire is to contribute to a more compassionate world where healing and understanding prevail.
Favorite subject: Science has always been my favorite subject and I plan to attend a four-year university to major in food sciences and biochemistry.
A person I would be honored to meet is: Kamala Harris because she empowers women across the United States to envision ambitious futures and overcome the glass ceiling in their careers.
Pets: We currently have a bearded dragon named Rango.
One word my friends use to describe me: Friendly.
Favorite movie: Little Shop of Horrors.
Favorite music: I love listening to musicals and old songs. One of my favorite genres of music is alternative rock.
Fun fact: I once baked 300 cupcakes for the Boys & Girls Club of America.
