LSSC Launches Donation Drive to Support Florida Colleges Impacted By Hurricane Helene

LEESBURG, Fla. – In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) is stepping up to support sister colleges in the Florida College System—Florida Gateway College, North Florida College, and St. Petersburg College—that were more severely impacted by the storm.

LSSC was fortunate to experience minimal damage, but many students and employees at these institutions are facing significant challenges during the storm’s recovery.

To show solidarity and support for students as they work toward their educational goals, LSSC is organizing a college-wide donation drive to collect essential items for students at these colleges.

The public is invited to join this effort to support students in need across Florida. Donations should be brought by Friday, October 4 at 9:00 a.m., to ensure timely delivery to the affected colleges.

The following items are being collected:

  • Toiletries: Toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap (bar or liquid), shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, tissues, hairbrushes/combs, sunscreen, etc.
  • Cleaning supplies: Multi-surface cleaners, disinfectant wipes, disinfectant spray, brooms/dustpans, mops/mop buckets, sponges, scrub brushes, cleaning cloths, trash bags, laundry detergent, etc.
  • Non-perishable food items that do not require a can opener.

Donation drop-off locations:

  • LSSC Leesburg: Student Services Building Lobby or Science-Math Building Lobby (9501 U.S. Highway 441, Leesburg)
  • LSSC South Lake: Building 2 Lobby near Enrollment Services or Science-Health Building Lobby (1250 N. Hancock Rd., Clermont)
  • LSSC Sumter: Building 4 Lobby (1423 County Road 526A, Sumterville)
  • LSSC Four Corners: Main Lobby (16744 Cagan Crossings Blvd, Clermont)

The 28-member colleges of the Florida College System are the primary access point to higher education for Floridians. With an array of programs and services, these colleges provide individuals, communities, and the state with low-cost, high-quality education opportunities.
