MDCA Senior Katie Bayly Dominates as Stellar Season Continues

Through the first 12 games of the season, Mount Dora Christian Academy senior Katie Bayly is proving why she’s one of the most dynamic and complete athletes in Lake County and why Rutgers University came calling for her talents.
The Rutgers softball commit is hitting a scorching .636 (21-for-33) at the plate, with 21 hits, 26 runs scored, 7 RBIs and five doubles. The numbers reflect not just raw production but the kind of consistent, high-energy play that has defined Katie’s career since she first stepped onto varsity as an eighth-grader.

A versatile infielder primarily at second base, Katie has experience across the diamond and brings the kind of baseball IQ that comes from growing up immersed in the sport. Her father, James Bayly, coached softball at Lake Brantley High School for a decade before taking over at MDCA, where Katie has flourished under his guidance. Softball has been a family affair since she picked up a glove at age 4.
But Katie’s drive extends far beyond the field. A four-sport standout who also competes in soccer, weightlifting and volleyball, she embodies the multi-sport athlete who balances elite performance with academics. Maintaining strong grades remains a priority, even amid a demanding schedule.

“Playing four sports makes getting schoolwork done imperative,” Katie says. “I make time for schoolwork, be it on the bus, at night or anytime I have free time. It’s not always easy, but academics are incredibly important. I work just as hard at sports as I do in the classroom.”
That work ethic and leadership qualities she credits to her late aunt, longtime Pinellas County softball coach Kaylyn Bayly. The memory of her aunt fuels her during every at-bat and practice. Kaylyn, who passed away in 2022, left an indelible mark by emphasizing character, integrity, respect, diversity and meaningful relationships above all else.
“My aunt meant everything to me,” Katie says. “When we lost her, it was a difficult time, but I play for her and remember everything she ever taught me. It gives me motivation to go out and play my hardest no matter what.”

James Bayly sees his late sister’s spirit alive in his daughter.
“Katie reminds me so much of Kaylyn. She is like a mirror image of her,” he says. “She meant everything to so many people and when we lost her it was a difficult time. But when people meet Katie, they see so much of what Kaylyn represented that lives on within her.”
But Katie is not the only one finding success. Senior Emmi Bowman has a .628 average with 27 hits, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Senior Lily Bryant, sophomore Jayla Robert’s and freshman Maddie Butler have also contributed heavily to the teams offense.

As MDCA continues its season and Katie prepares for her next chapter at Rutgers, there’s unfinished business that she and the rest of her teammates have. They hope to secure another district championship for MDCA and make a run in the FHSAA playoffs. For now it’s one game at a time and for Katie she’s cherishing every moment of it.
