Michael Huey – Two Old Hags Wine Shoppe

Some people inherit a farm, a law firm or construction company. For Michael Huey, inheriting Two Old Hags Wine Shoppe from his mom Joyce has been a source of pride and a way to reconnect with his home town of Leesburg.

“It’s been a constant learning experience,” says the 28-year-old. “My mom always taught me to respect people’s opinions and treat others kindly which I think is a crucial key to success.”

Joyce still pops in from time to time, but Michael runs the day-to-day business focusing on both the retail and the bar side. 

“I try to accommodate our retail customers by locating rare and hard to find wine,” Michael says, “I may just get a photo of a label from them but I treat it like a fun treasure hunt and do whatever it takes to find the bottle and ultimately the case.”

When the afternoon hits, Michael gets to enjoy his products with friends, both old and new.

“I love the bar part of the business,” he says. “We meet people from all over the world and to share a bottle of wine brings everyone together and equalizes everybody’s experiences.” 

In November, Michael will be on the ballot for the Leesburg City Commissioner, District #3.
