Mystic Ice Cream has officially opened the doors of its newest location in Mount Dora, joining its existing shops in Fruitland Park, Summerfield, Leesburg and Oxford.

Located at 348 North Alexander St., the new shop invites customers to “come by and celebrate the opening of our fifth and final shop with your favorite homemade ice cream,” according to a statement on facebook.

(It’s always a pleasure to walk into a Mystic Ice Cream location. This one in particular feels like someone’s home and it’s very charming. Exactly what you would expect in Mount Dora.)

Mystic Ice Cream is co-owned by Darrell and Lisa Day, who purchased the business from founder Jeff Markow in 2019. Since taking the reins, the Days have grown the brand while preserving its signature blend of retro flair, homemade treats and musical vibes.

Music plays a central role in the Mystic experience a nod to Darrell Day’s lifelong love of performing. His parents, Joe and Opal Day, were both musicians, with Opal touring the Midwest in the 1940s. Darrell began playing piano at age 7, later adding guitar and trumpet to his repertoire before studying conducting and composition at Eastern Kentucky University.

The couple, who met through Christian Mingle and have been married for eight years, share a blended family of five adult children: Megan, Tom, Ryan, Garrett and Nicholas.

The Mount Dora shop aims to offer the same whimsical charm and rich flavors that have made Mystic a local favorite across Lake and Sumter counties. Be sure to drop by and pay them a visit.
