South Lake High Football Dominates Spring Football Game Against Foundation Academy
South Lake High School Football will have something to build on going into summer workouts. After a slow start, the Eagles dominated Foundation Academy and won their spring game 49-14. The Eagles had over 400 yards of offense, and after some early miscues on defense, the Eagles shut down the Lions in the second half. Malik Holman had three touchdowns leading the Eagle offense. Tre Kelly threw for over 200 yards and two touchdown passes.
Marcel Walker also exploded with 96 yards in receptions and a touchdown. Rising sophomore Rome McKinnond had a 75-yard touchdown to cap off the Eagle Scoring. The Eagles also caused 4 turnovers, and Johens Misere had a scoop and score to put the Eagles on the board first. Foundation Academy would take advantage of costly Eagle turnovers to keep the game close in the first quarter. In the second quarter, The Eagles would start pulling away as Nelson Russell would pick off a Foundation pass and return it 55 yards for a pick 6 touchdown.
“We knew Foundation Academy would come out strong and punch us in the face. They are very well-coached and have had a tradition of winning,” stated South Lake Coach Brad Lord. “Our players have worked hard so far in the offseason and have dedicated themselves to creating a winning culture at South Lake High School. We leave for an 8-day bus trip on Thursday, 5/30, and have 50 players going to Georgia Tech, South Carolina, NC State, UNC, Mercer, UF, and end at UCF.
We will look to improve over the summer and be ready to compete this fall. It was great watching our new coaching staff coach up our players on Friday. We are extremely blessed to have a top-notch coaching staff, school administration, and teachers, and a parent base that all believe in the vision and growth of this program. We want to make our community proud and make Friday nights special at South Lake High School.”
