BUSHNELL, Fla.— South Sumter High School students took action for the planet and their community this week, teaming up to clean local roadways as part of an Earth Day initiative.

Members of the South Sumter FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter participated in a successful highway cleanup effort in Bushnell, collecting litter and debris to help beautify the area and promote environmental responsibility.

(Students went around the town looking for trash. It was a good experience for all those who participated.)

The event, organized with the help of Dade Youth and South Sumter High’s Mrs. Cloud, drew praise from school staff and community members for its impact and student involvement.

“Watching our students step up and make a difference for Earth Day was truly inspiring,” said Mrs. Cloud. “They took pride in their work and showed what it means to care for your community.”

The cleanup effort stretched across key roadways near the school, with dozens of students donning safety vests and gloves to tackle the litter lining the roadsides.

(While these wonderful students helped clean up Bushnell, drivers are reminded that litter is dangerous and harmful. Please make an effort to throw trash away in the garbage.)

South Sumter High School expressed gratitude to the students, teachers, and community partners who made the event a success, highlighting the importance of service learning and environmental stewardship.

This kind of community involvement helps build character and leadership. We’re proud of these students and their commitment to making a positive impact on Sumter County.

(We are thankful for the students who volunteered to clean up Bushnell. We appreciate their efforts.)

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22nd to support environmental protection efforts around the globe. For South Sumter High, the spirit of the day was alive and well thanks to a team of dedicated youth making a visible difference at home.
