Student-Athlete of the Week: Eustis High Basketball Player Anthony Hines
Anthony Hines is our student-athlete of the week. Hines is a junior and had an incredible performance during last Friday night’s basketball game against Leesburg. He scored 32 points in a 71-64 overtime victory against Leesburg.
This is the third time these two teams played each other during the 2023/2024 basketball season. Both schools had won a game previously, bringing up a sort of grudge match between the two schools for bragging rights. Both programs had an amazing evening that ended in a spectacular overtime session.
Hines was a factor throughout the game. He hit shot after shot and had one of the best performances of his young career. Anthony Hines is averaging 13.1 points per game, so he absolutely blew past those numbers on Friday evening. He has been a true part of the success Eustis basketball is having this year.
The big win against a very good Leesburg program was significant for the team. The momentum will be needed as Eustis gets set for the district tournament next week. With games against East Ridge and Mount Dora High remaining, Anthony Hines will be called upon in the final stretch of the season.
Hines is not alone and gets help from his teammates. #3 Jayveon Dale has averaged 14 points per game, while #12 Timothy Key and #4 Cornelius Hines are two juniors who have shown incredible promise this year.
Meanwhile, Eustis High basketball head coach Wesley Green is having one of the best seasons of his career. Eustis has a ton of momentum right now. The school has a 91% graduation rate, and both athletics and academics have never been in better shape.
Congratulations to Anthony Hines on a great week, and we look forward to seeing what this team can do down the home stretch of the 2024 season.
