Carter Giffing is a lot of things. He is the very definition of a student-athlete. With a 5.13 Weighted GPA, Griffing is not only a great athlete, he is a terrific scholar!

Giffing is an AP Scholar. He is 1 of 3 at Tavares High School to hold such a high academic standard. Giffing is the leader of FCA at the school. He also just became the school’s record holder in Track & Field Javelin.

“Academics are my number 1. I have been an all-A student since the 4th grade. I take academics as a challenge. Tavares High School has some amazing programs that I have been a part of. I always make it my goal to learn as much as possible. I make sure to get good grades, and once I have done that, focus on other activities including athletics,” says Carter.

During a recent event, Giffing was able to break the school Javelin throwing record with a 47.7 Meter throw. That equates to 156.49 total feet. Giffing now sits alone at the top of the record books. This is nothing new to Carter. Last year, he was the 2023 Class 3A District 5 Champion in the Javelin throw. He will be one of the top contenders again this season.

Carter is also involved with many other Tavares High School student activities. He is involved with the You’re Not Alone Program. He is a Student Ambassador with that program. He is also the Red Riot Vice President and Key Club Officer.

Carter has always been a hard worker. In so many ways, we can look to students like Carter Giffing as an inspiration. He balances athletics, clubs, and many other activities but still maintains one of the highest GPAs in all of Lake County.

Any College or University out there would be lucky to have Carter in their program. When we got the chance to talk a few weeks ago, Carter had this piece of advice. “Stick with things you want to do. Don’t quit. Keep working at things because, the more you work on things, the better you will be. I have been helping guys on the team try and improve and that’s been a humbling experience to teach.”
