UMATILLA, Fla. — Umatilla High School has achieved a milestone, boasting a record-breaking 97% graduation rate for the 2023-2024 academic year—the highest in the school’s history. This amazing accomplishment is being celebrated as a testament to the dedication and commitment of the school’s staff, students, and community.

Principal Brent Frazier expressed his pride and gratitude in a statement to faculty and staff, crediting their hard work and passion for helping students reach their potential. “This incredible achievement is a testament to the heart and commitment each of you brings to your work,” Frazier said. “Every day, you inspire, push, and motivate your students to reach heights they never imagined possible.” The 97% jump is a 1% jump from the school-record 96% last year.

Frazier emphasized that the success reflects more than just statistics—it embodies a culture of persistence, care, and going above and beyond for students. He acknowledged the challenges educators face, including the feeling that their efforts sometimes go unnoticed, but celebrated the tangible impact of their work. “What you do every day proves the opposite: there is no greater mission in life than to impact the life of someone else,” he said.

Cambridge AICE Coordinator and Umatilla High teacher Ben Nash echoed these sentiments, describing the achievement as a moment of pride for the entire Umatilla community. He credited the collaborative efforts of teachers, support staff, and families in creating an environment where students are encouraged to thrive academically and personally.

The school’s focus on academic excellence and personalized support for students has been central to its success. Programs aimed at reducing dropout rates, providing mentorship, and fostering a positive school culture have all contributed to the historic graduation rate. The Cambridge AICE Program has been a highly successful one and has allowed students to earn credits towards an associates degree while in high school.

As the second half of the school year has begun, Umatilla High School aims to build on this momentum, inspiring future generations to dream big and achieve greatness. “If you can dream it and believe it, you can achieve it,” Frazier reminded his staff, encouraging them to continue their mission of shaping lives and building brighter futures.

The achievement is a bright spot for Lake County schools and serves as a beacon of what is possible with determination, unity, and an unwavering belief in the power of education.
