WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. — The Weeki Wachee High School Hornets football team has earned special recognition from the Hernando County School Board after being commended by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and the Officials Association for exceptional sportsmanship. The Hornets, who recently defeated Anclote High School, received an “Exceptional Sportsmanship Report” following their conduct during the game.

District Athletic Director Dustin Kupcik highlighted the honor, emphasizing its rarity and prestige. “These are hard to come by; they don’t give them out free and easy,” said Kupcik. The recognition also makes the Hornets eligible for the coveted Fred E. Rozelle Sportsman Award, one of Florida’s top honors for high school sportsmanship.

Kupcik praised the players and coaches for their positive influence on and off the field. “I am super proud of the example that these fine young men and this coaching staff are setting,” he said. “I am appreciative of how they’re representing Hernando County School District Athletics as a whole.”

The Hornets’ accomplishment underscores their commitment to integrity and sportsmanship, bringing pride to their school and community.
