Wildwood Girls Flag-Football Draw #1 Seed In State Tournament

The Wildwood Girls Flag Football team is ranked #1 in the FHSAA State Tournament. They will face Mainland at home on 4/17 at 7pm. Mainland is the #8 seed. Wildwood is fresh off winning a district championship against Jones who is the #4 seed in the tournament and will face Weeki Wachee in round 1.
If Jones wins, that will set up a district championship rematch between Jones and Wildwood on the 23rd of April but this time the game will be played at Wildwood Middle High School.
Not to be lost in all of this is that another Sumter county school has made the Class 1A Flag-Football Tournament. The Villages flag-football team has also made the playoffs as a #7 seed. They will travel to Lecanto on the 17th to play against Lecanto. While Lecanto beat The Villages 42-0 earlier in the year, can The Villages possibly upset Lecanto? The Villages has improved a lot this season so anything is possible.
As for Wildwood the 1A State Championship is up for grabs. This team comes into the FHSAA State tournament as a heavy favorite. They are currently 8-0 on the year. Mainland presents challenges but Wildwood boasts one of the best rosters in the state. 8th grader Zoey Brown is an exciting young athlete who plays the quarterback position.
Meanwhile, junior Trinidy Harris and Senior Essiance Jasper have led the team offensively with Ra’miya Blackwell, Ja’kyra Corbin also pitching in heavily. This is a team that could contend for a state championship this year. This team is one of the best in central florida.
We wish both Wildwood and The Villages the best of luck in the state tournament. Unfortunately no Lake County school’s made the cut for the state tournament.
