Winn-Dixie In The Villages La Plaza Grande To Become ALDI

It’s confirmed. Winn-Dixie located at La Plaza Grande in Spanish Springs in The Villages will become an ALDI. Plans have been submitted for the conversion of Winn-Dixie into an Aldi. The building department of Lady Lake has received an application for the plans on turning the Winn-Dixie at La Plaza Grande into an ALDI location.
“The Winn-Dixie will be splitting the existing 46,400 square foot space into an ALDI location with 22,856 square feet,” Town of Lady Lake Communication Director Elisha Pappacoda says. “A future tenant space will also be added in the renovation with 23,856 square feet.”
There has been no timetable given for the conversion plans. The formal submission of plans is a likely precursor for what is coming. The conversion of the store would take several months. Recently, The Winn-Dixie at Lake Sumter Landing was converted to an ALDI to much fanfare. That location had sold off all it’s remaining inventory off the shelves before shutting down prior to Christmas in 2024.
The Winn-Dixie location at La Plaza Grande was the first supermarket to open in The Villages. Orange Blossom Gardens residents often talk about when they used to have to drive to Leesburg to get groceries. Publix was the second grocery store to arrive in The Villages after Winn-Dixie.
“I can confirm that the Town of Lady Lake Building Department has received an application and plans for the conversion of the Winn-Dixie at 944 Bichara Boulevard into an ALDI,” Elisha says.
We do not have a current closing date of this Winn-Dixie location but when we do, we will certainly update with that information.
