Laurel Krueger

Age: 33

Career: Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at U.S. Anesthesia Partners (USAP)

An experience that shaped me: Joining the Air Force was one of the most defining decisions of my life. I knew I wanted to become a CRNA, but I didn’t want to take on significant financial debt. The Air Force not only gave me the opportunity to develop strong leadership and professional skills, but it also provided the financial stability to pursue my dream of becoming a CRNA.

My legacy: My goal is to inspire people to chase their dreams and never hold themselves back. Your background doesn’t define your future; with determination and perseverance, you can accomplish anything. I especially want to encourage the next generation of CRNAs to know that it’s never too late to go back to school. Even with a family like I had, you can absolutely make it work.

By any measure, Laurel Krueger’s career is defined by purpose and an unwavering commitment to those she serves. At 33, the USAP Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is already known for her discipline, her leadership and the example she sets for the next generation of clinicians.

Laurel traces much of that foundation to a decision that changed the trajectory of her life.

“Joining the Air Force was one of the most defining decisions of my life,” she says.

She knew early on that she wanted to become a CRNA, but she also knew she didn’t want to be burdened by steep student debt.

“The Air Force not only gave me the opportunity to develop strong leadership and professional skills, but it also provided the financial stability to pursue my dream of becoming a CRNA,” Laurel says.

Her path wasn’t without sacrifice.

Laurel balanced the demanding workload of a full-time graduate program and family life while earning her degree.  She says those things ultimately strengthened her discipline and deepened her gratitude for life’s most meaningful moments.

“Being a full-time CRNA student while also a wife and mother taught me the importance of balance and intentionality,” she says, adding that the experience taught her to be purposeful with her time, focused when studying and fully present at home.

Laurel hopes her career serves as proof that anyone can overcome barriers to achieve their goals. She also hopes to inspire aspiring nurse anesthetists who may believe it’s too late to begin.

“Your background doesn’t define your future; with determination and perseverance, you can accomplish anything,” she says. “Even with a family like I had, you can absolutely make it work.”

What drives her now is deeply personal.

“It might sound a bit cliché, but my children truly motivate me to give my best every single day,” she says. Their watchful eyes remind her to live with integrity and to model the value of perseverance.

Asked how she hopes colleagues remember her decades from now, Laurel doesn’t mention accolades or titles. Instead, she hopes they’ll see a driven individual who never placed limits on herself.

“Above all, I hope people see me as someone they truly enjoyed collaborating with,” she says.

In case there’s any doubt she’s more than her résumé, Laurel says she’s ready to dust off an old hobby. “I love to golf!” she says, adding that life with young kids hasn’t left much time for the course, though she hopes to introduce her daughter to the game soon.
