What’s the New Law? Effective immediately, all pets must be on a leash when they are outside your home or secure fence. This ensures that your furry friends are properly restrained or under your direct control whenever they are out and about.

Why Is This Important? The safety of our residents, visitors, and business owners is a top priority. By keeping pets on a leash, we can prevent unwanted encounters and ensure our public spaces remain enjoyable for everyone.

Who Does This Affect? All pet owners! Whether you’re walking your dog, taking your cat for a stroll, or letting your pet explore your yard (yards with a secure fence are exempt), make sure they are always on a leash or under your direct control.

When Does This Start? The new ordinance is effective immediately. Please leash up your pets right away to comply with the new rules.

What If My Pet Isn’t on a Leash? Pets found running at large (not on a leash or under control) may result in penalties. A secured fence is considered sufficient control. The Mount Dora Police Department will enforce this new law to keep everyone safe.

Lake County, for instance, has a nuisance animal code that addresses animals running at large.
