Lake County — Lake County’s own Francisco Lindor, a former Montverde Academy standout, had a good performance on the mound for the New York Mets in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, scoring 2 runs and had 2 hits in a tightly contested 7-6 loss to the Philidelphia Phillies on Sunday.

The 30-year-old, born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, moved to Florida with his father, stepmother and youngest sibling at age 12, where he honed his baseball talents at Montverde Academy. He was a terrific talent at the high school level and he was drafted by the Cleveland Indians as the eighth overall pick in the 2011 MLB draft. Lindor also has the Montverde Academy baseball facility named after him which they dedicated in 2013.

In 2016, he led the Indians to a World Series appearance and earned his first All-Star selection and Gold Glove Award, becoming the first Puerto Rican shortstop to win the Gold Glove Award.[1] He won his first Silver Slugger Award in 2017. He placed second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2015 and was a selection to the 2017 All-WBC Team. Lindor was traded to the Mets following the 2020 season and later signed a 10-year, $341 million extension with the team. In 2023, he joined the 30–30 club.
Lindor has gone on to be one of Lake County’s most decorated graduates at the professional level in baseball. Lindor is a 4 time All-Star from 2016-2019. This year Lindor appeared in 152 regular season games for the Mets. He had 33 home runs, 29 stolen bases, and 91 RBIs. Fantastic to see him still thriving. Lindor celebrates his 31st birthday on November 14th and shows no signs of slowing down. Way to go Francisco!
