MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Mount Dora Christian Academy’s standout pitcher Ethan Priest has announced his commitment to play Division I baseball at the United States Air Force Academy. Priest, a senior with a stellar 4.6 GPA, signed his letter in front of family, friends, students and coaches. “For God. For my Country. To continue my Academics. For the love of the Game. Committed.”

Priest, the younger brother of Collin Priest—who is coming off a fantastic freshman baseball season at Michigan and recently transferred to Clemson, is continuing his family’s tradition of athletic and academic excellence. Ethan’s decision reflects not only his talent on the field but also his leadership and discipline, traits that make him an ideal recruit for the Air Force Academy.

“Ethan is just a super talented player. He’s one of the most goal driven individuals I have ever been around in my life. When he sets a goal he makes it happen. The fact that he gets to play college baseball and ultimately serve our Nation is a special thing. He’s one of the nicest guys around campus but when he gets on the mound he’s like a different person.” says head coach Jason Sanders.

As a left-handed pitcher, Priest has consistently demonstrated his ability to dominate opposing batters. In his sophomore season, he posted a 2.57 ERA over 33 innings, striking out 34 hitters while allowing just 12 earned runs. Last year he posted a 1.65 ERA as a junior and had 67 strikeouts over 59.1 innings pitched. He only gave up 14 earned runs the entire season.

“Ethan is the epitome of a student-athlete,” MDCA Athletic Director Megan Zeigelhofer said. “He’s not only excelling in the classroom but also leading by example on the field. I think he’s going to be President one day.” she said.

(Ethan is very excited about this opportunity.)

The Air Force Academy’s baseball program is renowned for its emphasis on discipline, teamwork, and academic rigor, making it a perfect match for Priest’s aspirations. Priest’s commitment represents a continuation of MDCA’s recent streak of sending athletes to elite college programs, including Division I schools.

MDCA’s athletics program has drawn increasing interest from college recruiters, including the armed forces. “The military academies have recognized the caliber of athletes and students coming from our school,” Zeigelhofer noted. “It’s exciting to see Ethan continue this legacy.”

Congratulations to Ethan Priest, his family, friends and coaches.
