Local Soccer Coach Fighting for His Life After Headache Leads to Brain Tumor Diagnosis

A local Mount Dora soccer coach and father of two is fighting for his life after what began as a severe headache revealed a life-threatening medical condition.

Corey Brooks, a well-known youth coach with the city of Mount Dora, was recently taken to the emergency room with an intense headache. A CT scan revealed a 4.8-by-4.3 centimeter mass in his brain, which had caused a 6mm midline shift — a serious neurological concern that prompted immediate action.

He was then transported to a trauma center, where he underwent emergency brain surgery to remove the tumor. Following the operation, oncology specialists ordered a full-body scan, which uncovered another larger mass — measuring approximately 7 centimeters — in his pelvic region.

The news has been shocking to the many soccer families whose lives he has touched over the years, so a call has gone out to help support the family.

Corey’s wife, Kaila, said he now faces a long and uncertain road ahead that could include radiation therapy, chemotherapy and extensive recovery time.

His wife shared the update publicly, asking for thoughts, prayers, and support.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help ease the financial burden of medical expenses and time away from work.

“No one should have to walk this path alone,” the campaign page reads. “Every prayer, kind word, and donation means the world to this family.”

The Mount Dora community has already begun rallying around the family with messages of encouragement and support. Updates will be shared as Corey’s recovery continues.
