Leesburg Grad Alexis Deland Signs Commitment to Lake-Sumter State College

Leesburg High School graduate Alexis Deland has made it official! She will continue her academic and playing career at Lake-Sumter State College. The standout volleyball star for Leesburg High School was among the area’s best high school volleyball athletes last year and now she will get a chance to continue to shape her game under head coach Alisha Wintersdorf.

(Alexis has made it official and will compete with Lake-Sumter State College in 2025.)
Alexis had 88 kill shots and 54 aces. She was one of the best servers in Lake County. She also led Leesburg High in total digs and serves received. She’s a great athlete who will certainly benefit from playing with Lake-Sumter State College. Alexis has all the tools to be a successful collegiate volleyball player.
She can play outside hitter, setter and other positions as well. She is a quick learner and she’s exactly what Lake-Sumter State College and coach Wintersdorf are looking for. Even more than athletics, Alexis brings a strong academic portfolio to LSSC. She has a 4.6 GPA and is among the smartest students in Lake County.
“She consistently embodies true leadership, and I am thankful for the example she sets for our younger athletes on and off the court,” Head Coach Mekenzie Hicks says. “Her future is bright!”

(Alexis is a great student-athlete and comes in with a 4.6 GPA.)
For Alexis, representing Leesburg High has been an honor.
“Playing for Leesburg High means a lot to me because I was able to represent my school and make memories I will remember for the rest of my life,” Alexis says.
When she is not playing volleyball, Alexis stays involved with her community and likes to volunteer.
“Never take time for granted,” she says. “It will fly by before you know it. Never give up on your goals when they seem out of reach.”
Congratulations to Alexis and we wish her the best of luck on her continued journey at Lake-Sumter State College!
