Tacares “T.J.” McCormick Jr.

My proudest moment: Being named captain of the varsity basketball and football team. For me, the title wasn’t just about being the best player on the court or field. It was about earning the respect of my teammates and being trusted to lead.

What keeps me motivated: I thrive on competition. The intensity, the energy and the opportunity to test my limits are what drive me. But when things get tough, I lean on my faith, my family and my commitment to excellence.

What’s next: My next goal is to continue sharpening my skills, earn a college scholarship and compete at the next level. Beyond sports, I want to study sport psychology and use my platform to motivate athletes.

Pre-game ritual: Before every game, I take a quiet moment to pray, thank God for the ability to play and ask for focus and favor. Then it’s headphones on usually a mix of gospel and 90s hip hop to get me locked in mentally.

Off the field: I enjoy spending time with my family, hanging out with friends, or playing a good game of UNO.

Biggest inspiration: My dad. He’s the example I look up to every day as a man of faith, discipline and leadership. He’s taught me that true strength comes from serving others and staying humble no matter how much you accomplish. But my mom is definitely my biggest motivation. Her strength, love and perseverance remind me why I can’t give up, no matter what.

My message: I want my legacy to be about more than stats or wins. I want to be remembered as someone who gave his all on the court, on the field and in the classroom; someone who led with character, treated people right and showed that faith and hard work can take you anywhere.
