Kate Guthrie

Getting started: My whole life I had been extremely active and when I started high school, I tried track and it just fit. I have been competing in it for three years now and really enjoy the range of events that you can compete in.

Greatest sports achievement: Qualifying for State Championship the past three years of high school and becoming MVP my junior year.

Future goals: For my senior year I want to keep building and improving in all my events so I can make it to the State Championship one last time. Beyond that, I want to pursue track and field in college while majoring in biology so I can eventually enter medical school.

Pre-game ritual: I listen to 80’s music while drinking a smoothie and eating a protein bar on the way to the track meet.

For fun: I have a big, close-knit family so when I am not competing, we spend a lot of time together watching movies, cooking, eating and playing games. More than anything, I value my relaxation and alone time. This is when I turn on The Office and spend quality time with my four dogs.

Go-to meal: Chicken and pasta.

Biggest inspiration: Tara Davis-Woodall. She is the Olympic and World Champion in long jump. I love watching her for her hard work, grit and positive spirit.

My message: YOLO – you only live once so you can’t be worried about failing or fixate on what other people think.

Fun fact: I can do a backflip.
