Clermont Basketball Academy, founded by Coach Dennis James, has a mission to provide Central Florida’s youth with a high-level basketball development experience rooted in skill mastery, discipline and character. CBA offers structured training programs, development leagues, camps and evaluations designed to meet athletes where they are and help them progress intentionally. Unlike traditional recreational programs, CBA focuses on long term development with a clear pathway to improve their skills, confidence, and understanding of the game.

Coach Dennis, “aka” Coach DJ, a highly respected basketball coach in the Central Florida area, has an extensive record across high schools, charter schools and AAU basketball. With over a decade of coaching experience, he has built winning programs while developing athletes who succeed both on and off the court.

Coach DJ’s coaching career first started as an assistant coach at Boone High School for two years, followed by six impactful years at West Orange High School, where he helped lead the program to a State Championship appearance. 

He later became head coach at Family Christian School, guiding the team to a State Championship title, and went on to win a District Championship as assistant coach at Minneola Charter School. He currently serves as the Boys Head Varsity Coach at Real Life Christian Academy, continuing his legacy of building disciplined, competitive and character driven teams.

Additionally, Coach DJ has coached multiple AAU teams, gaining extensive experience in player development, competitive circuits, and preparing athletes for the next level. His background has shaped the philosophy behind Clermont Basketball Academy, one that emphasizes fundamentals, basketball IQ, consistency and leadership. 

“As CBA continues to grow, it remains committed to serving the Central Florida community with created opportunities for young athletes,” Coach DJ says.

Coach says families are drawn to the academy’s commitment to small group instruction, player evaluations, and a development approach that prioritizes growth over wins alone.

The academy emphasizes accountability, teamwork, and mental toughness, qualities that extend beyond the court and into everyday life.
