4 Lake County High Schools Honored For Successful Ap Programs
East Ridge, Lake Minneola, South Lake and Eustis high schools earn AP School Honor Roll Awards
TAVARES – Four Lake County high schools are being recognized for their work in creating AP programs that are delivering results for students while broadening access.
The AP School Honor Roll offers schools recognition across four levels of distinction, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Schools on the AP School Honor Roll may also earn the AP Access Award, which honors schools that demonstrate a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.
Congratulations to:
- East Ridge High School for earning AP School Honor Roll Gold Award
- Lake Minneola High School for earning AP School Honor Roll Gold Award
- South Lake High School for earning AP School Honor Roll Silver Award
- Eustis High School for earning AP School Honor Roll Bronze Award
East Ridge, Lake Minneola and Eustis high schools also earned the AP Access Award.
For a school to be recognized on the AP School Honor Roll, it must be located within the United States or Canada and meet each of the following criteria anchor din research-based relationships between AP and college outcomes:
- College Culture: 40 percent or more of the graduating cohort took at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
- College Credit: 25 percent or more of the graduating cohort scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
- College Optimization: 2 percent or more of the graduating cohort took 5 or more AP Exams during high school. At least 1 of those exams was taken in 9th or 10th grade so that students are spreading their AP experience across grades rather than feeling disproportionate pressure in any single year.
Schools can earn the additional AP Access Award if the percentage of AP Exam takers who are underrepresented minority and/or low-income students mirrors the school’s overall student demographics.
“AP represents an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, senior vice president AP & Instruction. “These schools have shown that they can expand access to these college-level courses and still drive high performance. They represent the best of our AP program.”
Of the 15,150 eligible schools in the U.S. and Canada, 4,570 schools (30 percent) earned a place on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll.
Kyle Coppola was born in Newton, Massachusetts and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications from Curry College in 2016. After traveling to Florida on a family vacation, he decided he could not get enough of the warm weather and made the move from snowy Massachusetts to central Florida 8 years ago.
For the last decade Kyle has gained valuable experience in social media content creation, marketing and sales, writing, video production, sports announcing and even broadcasting for local radio stations, such as FM 102.9 in The Villages and FM 91.5 in Massachusetts. Every year he volunteers at The Villages Charter High School as a play-by-play sports announcer for the football games as well as a public address announcer for the basketball games, including the annual Battle at The Villages Tournament.
Outside the office Kyle is a husband and father to two beautiful girls along with their cat. In his spare time he likes to spend time with his family, travel, play golf and swim. He is also a huge sports junkie and even bigger motorsports fan and loves to attend racing events when he can.
