Parking in Downtown Mount Dora has been an issue since… well as long as it’s been around it seems. The city has been looking for solutions, specifically the past couple years since traffic has become considerably congested. They have looked at parking garages, shuttles and adding more parking lots, but nothing has seemed to stick to the town’s small-town feel.

However, on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at the Mount Dora Commission Meeting, the idea will once again be presented. In response to the city’s continued growth and the increasing influx of visitors, Mount Dora city leaders are actively exploring the implementation of a shuttle service to address parking challenges in the historic downtown area.

They will unveil comprehensive details and a formal presentation, providing insights into the program’s scope and objectives. This shuttle service is being introduced as a pilot program.

The proposed shuttle service envisions an 8 to 10 minute loop, designed to pick up passengers from parking lots near Downtown Mount Dora. By alleviating parking congestion and facilitating convenient access, the city aims to preserve the charm and accessibility of its historic district.

Mount Dora has previously experimented with shuttle services, but it didn’t quite work. They are now hoping this new plan will be the solution. If accepted, city officials anticipate the shuttle service to be operational by the fall of this year.

The meeting will take place at the Mount Dora City Hall Board Room, located at 510 North Baker Street in Mount Dora, on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. All residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate and provide their input.
