WQBQ Radio in Leesburg, in collaboration with the Leesburg Police Department, is hosting a special “Meet, Greet, and Eat,” on Tuesday, February 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Venetian Center in Leesburg. This event aims to support Cottons Kitchen, a local soul-food restaurant struggling due to ongoing road construction on Pine Street.

James Floyd, owner of WQBQ, expressed deep concern for Cottons Kitchen owner Athia Linzy, noting the challenges faced by the single mother of two, who is now the sole employee of her establishment.

“We’ve been supporting Cottons Kitchen for a couple of years now,” James says. “I put myself in her place. If I owned the restaurant and they shut the whole road down, what would I do?”

The idea of a collaborative event emerged during a conversation between law enforcement officers and the radio station. Sgt. Shannon Walsh from the Leesburg PD will provide a basic crime prevention talk during the event, while all proceeds from the meal will go directly to support Cottons Kitchen. Prices per plate is $16, but James is encouraging everyone to round that up to $20 as a tip for Athia.

“We want to give some love to this local business,” James emphasized. “Our hearts desire is to help Cottons Kitchen in hopes to keep them going strong in our community.”

The event, expected to be the largest Meet, Greet and Eat yet, which has already garnered support from approximately 130 pre-registered attendees, with food for up to 200 expected to be served. Attendees can choose between fried chicken or fried pork chop, accompanied by yummy side dishes.
