age 29/HVAC Student at Lake Tech

Why did you go back to school? I was working at Home Depot after I got out of the Army, and then I started helping family members with rental properties. When you’re dealing with rental properties, especially older rental properties, things break down all the time. I fixed broken windows and tried to fix air conditioners. That’s when God called me back to school. He opened doorways so I could go back when I wasn’t really doing anything.
Why HVAC? I tried to work on units and figured being here in Florida there is really no shortage of jobs for air conditioner repairmen.
What are your hopes with this new career? I just want to have a good job and support my family.
What is the most challenging thing you’ve learned in the program? There are a lot of things you learn that have to do with chemistry and electrical connections. You have to put a lot together to understand how air conditioners really work.
How long were you in the Army? Four years. I did one tour in Iraq.
How did the service prepared you for your new career? It helped in just about every situation, with adaptability, problem solving, and responsibility.
Favorite Song? “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns.
Favorite quote? “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
