United Southern Bank’s Trust Department has announced a new community trust endeavor.

The Sunshine Community Trust will support local community and charitable organizations through the stewardship of generously donated funds. The first fund has been designated in support of educational causes.

The Sunshine Community Trust celebrated its launch this week with a grant to Lake Technical College. This inaugural grant establishes a scholarship fund that will provide tuition assistance to deserving students in good academic standing as they pursue quality technical degrees and certifications.

DeAnna Thomas, President of Lake Technical College said, “We are honored to receive this grant from United Southern Bank’s Sunshine Community Trust. The college’s primary mission is to be an integral component of the economic growth and development in our communities through high quality training opportunities and this funding will allow greater access to training for local students. We look forward to this continued partnership as we work together to make a lasting impact in our communities.”

As a community bank, USB strives to partner with and improve the local community. Sunshine Community Trust is a natural manifestation of USB’s long-held values of community involvement, community service, and philanthropic support. Andre Nacaxe, USB Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Officer stated, “United Southern Bank is extremely honored and humbled to embark on this amazing new endeavor through the Sunshine Community Trust. As a community bank, we strive to partner with and improve our local community. We strongly believe in Lake Tech’s mission and look forward to assisting them in completing it through this grant.”

The over $38,000 grant will be administered and distributed by Lake Technical College based on stringent criteria. Lake Tech offers a wide variety of technical programs that range in cost from between $1000 to $6500. This is an annual grant that will support dozens of Lake Tech students in the coming years.

“Through USB’s Sunshine Community Trust, we are excited to make a donation to Lake Tech to help many aspiring students achieve their career dreams.  Lake Tech’s diverse programs play a big part in Lake County’s workforce development, and we are proud to make the financial path a little easier for many students” stated Greg Nelson, President of United Southern Bank.
