11-year-old Michael Seegobin, the son of Marion County Firefighter Lieutenant Deen Seegobin, came in as runner-up in the finale of MasterChef Junior.

Michael has been a standout contestant throughout the season, impressing both the judges and viewers with his ability to handle the intense environment of the competition kitchen.

In the two-part final, Michael was praised for his ambitious dishes, ultimately coming down to the dessert category between himself, 11-year-old Bryson McGlynn and 10-year-old Remy Powell.

He had a slight hiccup when his pound cakes came out undercooked, but he brought himself together and managed to present a completed dish with homemade ice cream. Unfortunately, the cake turned out a little dry. Although he was praised for the flavor and risks he took, in the end, it just wasn’t enough to compete with the other two dishes.

After the judges discussion of the final meal in all aspects, Bryson was named the winner of MasterChef Junior.

Michael was inspired to cook by his father, a Lieutenant at Marion County Fire Rescue, then honed his craft through countless hours of studying culinary skills on YouTube. Many have rallied behind the young chef and his incredible gift, taking to social media to show their support.

Congratulations Michael for all you’ve accomplished!
