After Raising $80,000 for Cancer Research, Haley Williams Rings the Cancer-Free Bell

After more than two years of treatments, hospital visits and unimaginable challenges, 15-year-old Haley Williams rang the bell to signify she is cancer-free.
For her mother, Lena Williams, the moment was both emotional and overwhelming.
“It has taken me a few days to let the reality sink in that our beautiful Haley rang the bell,” Lena wrote in a social media post. “When I say she did it… I mean SHE DID IT.”

Haley’s fight lasted 808 days and included 24 lumbar punctures under full anesthesia, 98 days spent in the hospital, 75 outpatient infusion center visits, multiple emergency visits, blood transfusions, IVIG therapy, infections, kidney stones and neuropathy. Through it all, her family said she faced the battle with remarkable strength.
“She fought. She suffered. She cried. She laughed. She advocated for herself,” Lena wrote. “She inspired people.”

Despite the demanding treatments and frequent hospital stays, Haley continued living as much of her normal life as possible. She completed school online, graduated eighth grade, made her Confirmation, danced and became a cheerleader, all while enduring treatment.

“She did all of this and more with an incredible spirit while going through the most difficult trial,” Lena wrote.

Now a sophomore at Trinity Catholic in Ocala, Haley continues to pursue her passion for dance at Dance Dynamix in Leesburg.

Her journey also connected her with Lyrics for Life, a cancer research fundraising organization tied to musicians including members of Sister Hazel and the Goo Goo Dolls. The organization raises money for cancer research through music-centered events.

Haley took part in a Lyrics for Life event last week, where she sang in front of about 1,000 people, which alone raised $80,000 for cancer research. A song written for the event reflected the struggles cancer patients face, and Haley was invited to sing a solo.
“It’s about the message,” Lena said of the performance and the event’s purpose.

Ken Block, who is involved with Lyrics for Life and whose brother had the same cancer Haley battled, helped bring Haley into the event and its mission.
When Haley rang the bell signaling the end of treatment, Ken was there for the emotional moment.

Throughout the journey, Lena said the family leaned on their faith, medical teams and community support. She also credited the community that rallied around Haley during her fight.
Lena said Haley’s sister Hannah was also a vital part of the journey, showing resilience and support throughout the difficult years.
“To my sweet Haley — I am so honored that God chose me to be your Mommy,” she wrote. “Walking beside you through this journey has been a privilege. I am in awe of you.”
And after 808 days of fighting, she did it.
