Beacon College Welcomes Two Esteemed Leaders to Its Board of Trustees
Beacon College is excited to announce the appointment of two highly accomplished professionals, Dr. Lynne P. Brown and Dr. Jim Hundrieser, to its Board of Trustees. Their combined decades of leadership experience in higher education, government relations, and strategic planning will provide invaluable insight as Beacon College continues to advance its mission and growth. As we welcome these distinguished individuals, we also bid farewell to Nancy Judge, who has completed her 12-year term of dedicated service on the Board.
Lynne P. Brown, Ph.D., recently retired from a distinguished 40-year career at New York University (NYU), where she held the position of Senior Vice President for University Relations and Public Affairs. In this role, Brown oversaw a broad range of critical functions, including government relations, media and strategic communications, community engagement, and public events for the university. During her tenure at NYU, she regularly taught a graduate seminar on the politics of higher education, and she continues to be a frequent speaker on national politics and leadership in academia. Beyond NYU, she has been deeply engaged in civic leadership in New York City, serving on boards such as the Union Square Partnership and the New York Building Congress. A renowned political scientist, she received a B.A. from Smith College and a Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University.
Jim Hundrieser, Ph.D., is a seasoned higher education executive with over 30 years of experience leading strategic initiatives in student affairs, enrollment management, and institutional sustainability. Currently, he serves as Senior Advisor to the President of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). Prior to this role, he served as Vice President for Consulting and Business Development at NACUBO, where he launched services aimed at helping higher education institutions strengthen their financial and operational models. Previously, he held various enrollment management and student affairs leadership roles at Plymouth State University and Noel-Levitz, where his expertise in enrollment management and student success shaped the strategies of many universities across the nation. Hundrieser earned his Ph.D. in Leadership and Education from Barry University and received his M.A. from Plymouth State College.
Beacon College Board Chair Dr. Dan Averbeck expressed his enthusiasm about the new board members: “I know that I join President Hagerty, my fellow trustees, and the entire Beacon community in welcoming Drs. Lynne Brown and Jim Hundrieser to the College’s Board membership. Their election continues Beacon’s strategic ambition to strengthen the institutional governance by attracting national leaders whose work has prepared them to shepherd the college’s development and influence at a time demanding of higher education innovation and sound judgment. We consider ourselves enormously fortunate to have brought these experienced professionals to the institution.”
As the community celebrates these new appointments, Beacon College also extends its heartfelt gratitude to Judge for her 12 years of service on the Board of Trustees.
“Nancy Judge and I started [serving] at Beacon College at the same time being appointed 12 years ago,” said Averbeck. “At that moment, the College was in an institutional transition that required informed leadership to bring Beacon to the enviable station we find it in today. Throughout Nancy’s tenure, the institution benefited enormously from her wise counsel and expertise.”
“Beacon College has been the grateful beneficiary of Nancy’s vigilance and guidance during a time of extraordinary change,” Hagerty said. “Her legacy is that of a welcoming and ‘right-sized’ campus footprint, enrollment growth, and financial security. On a personal note, Nancy has been a steadfast Trustee and friend.”
With these appointments, Beacon College continues to enhance its leadership team with individuals who share a deep commitment to advancing the mission of the college and preparing students for success in an ever-changing world.
