Great Scott Farms

Long & Scott farms has been a family-run commercial farm since 1963 and while many of the neighboring farms were gobbled up by the state in the 90’s, Haley Scott and her family kept their farm and got creative.

“We wanted to let people know we were here to stay so in 2002 we started an agritourism business and it has been a huge success,” says Haley who owns Great Scott Farms with her brother Sonny.

What started as a 7-acre corn maze and pumpkin patch, evolved into educational field trips for schools to teach young students the importance of agriculture.

“Most kids think that food comes from the grocery store, so we show them that fruits and vegetables have a journey from seed to plant to truck to food outlet,” Haley says.

“It’s so fun taking the kids out on the farm,” adds Kirsten Rodriguez, director of operations. “They go out into the fields and are amazed that cucumbers and cabbage are growing in the dirt.”

Haley says the job has its challenges but is worth it.

“We deal with all kinds of variables in farming but watching our work grow right in front of us is incredibly rewarding.”
