Carver Middle School Basketball Teams Surge to Top of North Division

Carver Middle School’s basketball program is making a statement this season, with both the girls and boys teams rising to the top of the North Division.

The Carver Middle School girls basketball team once again raised the bar, closing out the regular season with a flawless 10-0 record. The Lady Raiders have built not just a winning team but a legacy that continues to shape school history.

For the past five years, Coaches Vappie and Eugene have been called the “dream team.” Together, they have led the girls basketball program to four straight North District Championships since the 2022-23 academic year. Five players on this year’s roster have been part of the program for the past three years.

“We cannot be prouder of their dedication to being student athletes,” Coaches Vappie and Eugene say.

While the Lady Raiders continued their dominant run, the Red Raiders matched that intensity with a breakout season of their own.

Carver boys opened the season with back-to-back blowout wins and never looked back. Their only loss came in a tight road matchup at Eustis Middle School.

In just their second year leading the Carver Middle School boys basketball program, Head Coach Wayne Watkins, Assistant Coach Korey Jefferson and Assistant Coach and Athletic Director Dominique Lindsey have guided the Red Raiders to one of the strongest seasons in recent school history. With a 9-1 record this academic year and a share of first place in the North Division, Carver has emerged as a fast, physical and defensively dominant force.

The coaching trio has quickly established a culture built on accountability, teamwork and relentless effort. Wayne provides the foundation with his disciplined approach and emphasis on fundamentals. Dominique brings strategic leadership and a steady presence both on the court and in his role as athletic director. Korey adds energy and player development expertise, helping shape a roster filled with young talent.

The team has averaged 50 points and 20 steals per game this season. Their consistency on both ends of the floor has kept them in the championship conversation all year.

While the Red Raiders have their sights set on a title, the coaching staff emphasizes that success extends beyond the scoreboard. Maintaining strong grades, positive behavior and personal growth remains at the core of the program’s mission.

“It’s been a joy all season long to coach this group of athletic talents,” Wayne says. “I want to thank their parents and Carver Middle School for allowing me to be the coach.”
