Cecil Clark Chevrolet Celebrates 53 Years with New Generation of Leadership at the Wheel

One of Lake County’s longest-standing family businesses is celebrating 53 years this month with fresh leadership, community focus and a forward-looking vision. Cecil Clark Chevrolet, founded in 1972, officially entered its third generation of ownership under Joseph Clark, the grandson of founder Cecil Clark, six months ago when Joseph took over the dealership on Halloween following the retirement of his father, Greg Clark.
“This business is in my blood,” Joseph says. “I’ve worked in every department, and I’ve seen the hard work and dedication that my grandfather and father poured into this dealership. Taking over is not just about running a business; it’s about continuing a family legacy.”
Cecil Clark, a Navy veteran, opened the dealership after a successful career selling Chevrolet pickup trucks and Frigidaire refrigerators door to door. Though he had options in places like Key West and Myrtle Beach, he chose Leesburg, believing it would be the best place to raise his family.
“Cecil passed away 17 years ago, but his legacy lives on,” Joseph says. “My dad bought him out in 2002, and now, as the third generation, I’m proud to build on the foundation they created.”
In the six months since taking over, Joseph has focused on both modernization and community connection. He’s implemented updated technologies, hired new leadership and increased community sponsorships.
“We love the direction we’re going,” he says. “It’s about keeping with tradition while embracing modernization.”
Joseph’s wife, Brenna, now serves as vice president of the dealership. “She started working at the store, and I’m teaching her how to run a dealership.”
Other key additions to the team include Dave Vancellette as director of marketing and Erika Corley as director of social events, both which Joseph said are huge helps to success.
The dealership has also been busy in the community, with sponsoring a chamber breakfast, two golf tournaments, Leesburg High School’s teacher appreciation meal, and is heavily involved with Leesburg athletics, Lake Home Builders Association and the Education Foundation of Lake County.
“It’s my town, my backyard, my neighborhood,” Joseph says. “We’re big on social and big on community events. This isn’t just about selling cars; it’s about being part of the community and making a positive impact.”
Joseph and Brenna’s children are also thriving. Their son, Walker, recently graduated in the top 3 percent of the county, was dual-enrolled and is headed to UF to study biotechnology.
His daughter, Lannah, served as SGA president last year and is now executive board secretary.
“My kids see the world and want to make it better,” Joseph says. “I want them to follow their passions.”
Looking forward, Cecil Clark Chevrolet will continue balancing tradition with progress.
“I wake up every day energized,” Joseph says. “Not everyone needs a car today, but they might in six months, and we want to be the place they turn to.”
