Family, friends and members of the community will come together later this month to honor the life of Corey Brooks, a coach, father and husband remembered for his energy, humor and dedication to those around him.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frank Brown Sports Complex in Mount Dora. Organizers say the gathering will focus on sharing memories, stories and moments that reflect Corey’s impact on the community.

Corey’s battle began last year when a severe headache led to the discovery of a large brain tumor, requiring emergency surgery. While the procedure was lifesaving, doctors later determined he was facing stage 4 malignant melanoma that had spread to his brain and spinal fluid. In the months that followed, he underwent additional treatments as he faced ongoing complications associated with the aggressive cancer. He passed away February 27. He was 33.

Corey was known locally for his involvement in youth sports, where he coached and mentored athletes including his own son, as well as for his strong work ethic and outgoing personality. Friends and family describe him as someone who “lived life full throttle,” balancing his love for competition, adventure and family.

Those who knew him say his sense of humor and ability to connect with others left a lasting impression, both on and off the field. The event is expected to bring together players, parents, colleagues and loved ones whose lives were shaped by his presence.

Attendees are encouraged to come dressed casually, with organizers suggesting sports jerseys or bright colors as a reflection of Corey’s personality. Time will be set aside during the event for those who wish to share personal memories.

For those unable to attend, organizers are also collecting short video tributes to be shared with Corey’s wife, Kaila, and their children as a lasting keepsake.

In addition, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support the Brooks family. Community members say the response has already reflected the wide-reaching impact he had throughout the area.

Organizers say the gathering will serve not only as a remembrance, but as a celebration of a life that brought laughter, mentorship and connection to many in the Mount Dora community.
