East Ridge Knights Capture Inaugural Gem of the Hills Cup Championship

The Knights set the tone early in the fall season with a surprising and pivotal victory in girls bowling. Led by Esmeralda Rosado, who delivered a career-high game of 263, East Ridge secured a key upset over South Lake to take an early lead in the standings. Momentum continued to build as both the boys and girls cross country teams captured district titles, further strengthening East Ridge’s position and securing first-place finishes in the fall portion of the Cup.
As the seasons transitioned, the Knights maintained their edge through strong winter performances. Both boys and girls basketball and soccer teams contributed valuable points, keeping East Ridge ahead of its rivals. A major highlight came from the girls weightlifting team, which dominated by winning district and regional titles while also securing first place in the Gem of the Hills Cup standings. The team was powered by standout state champions Molly O’Hara and Amirah Newton.
Heading into the spring season, East Ridge held a slim 8-point lead over Lake Minneola, with 10 sports remaining and the championship still very much up for grabs. The Knights rose to the challenge, as boys and girls tennis, softball, and boys lacrosse all delivered first-place finishes in the Cup standings.
The deciding moment came when the boys weightlifting team clinched the championship by earning the program’s first district title in school history. Lake Minneola closed strong with first-place finishes in both boys and girls track and field but it was not enough to overcome East Ridge’s consistent excellence across all sports.
The inaugural Gem of the Hills Cup showcased the competitive spirit and athletic talent across all three schools, setting the stage for what promises to be a premier annual rivalry.
Looking ahead, East Ridge, Lake Minneola, and South Lake are seeking a major sponsor for the Gem of the Hills Cup. Plans include enhancing the prestige of the competition and establishing a college scholarship for an outstanding athlete from the winning school.
Those interested in sponsoring the annual trophy and scholarship opportunity are encouraged to contact Athletic Director Ty Ensor at ensort@lake.k12.fl.us.
