LAKE COUNTY, FL — Eustis High School graduate Kerry Carpenter came up clutch for the Detroit Tigers, delivering a go-ahead 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to secure a dramatic 3-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday afternoon, tying the American League Division Series at 1-1.

Carpenter, who has been a consistent presence in the Tigers’ lineup all season, stepped to the plate with two runners on. Carpenter launched a towering shot over the right field wall, sending the Detroit dugout into a frenzy and silencing the Cleveland crowd.

Carpenter is a graduate of Eustis High School where he played his high school baseball. He batted .463 his senior year in 2016 and has been a fantastic player in the MLB. Carpenter went on to attend St. Johns River State College before attending Virginia Tech in 2019. He made his debut in 2022 for the Detroit Tigers and since then has helped the Tigers offensively and defensively in the outfield.

Also worth noting on the Detroit Tigers is Riley Greene from Oviedo Florida who graduated from Hagerty High School. Great to see some local boys getting plenty of action in the MLB post-season. We are so happy for Kerry! Way to represent Lake County!
