Flowers for Fathers Honors the Role of Dads in the Community
Founded in Leesburg, Flowers for Fathers Foundation, Inc. is working to support and celebrate fathers and father figures throughout Lake and Sumter counties.
The organization was founded by James Edward III, who has spent years working with young people through the Boys & Girls Club, local schools and ministry. What began with Father’s Day events about five years ago has since grown into a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on fatherhood, family engagement and community support.
The organization’s mission centers on recognizing fathers while they are still here to receive that appreciation.
“The importance of a father is fully expressed only after he is gone. We want to change that narrative by creating a culture where fathers are supported and encouraged while they are actively navigating the responsibilities of fatherhood,” James says.
Flowers for Fathers hosts community outreach efforts aimed at encouraging fathers to become more present and intentional in the lives of their children. James believes that support can have an impact beyond one household and influence future generations.
Over the next three years, he hopes to expand the organization’s reach throughout Lake and Sumter counties and surrounding Central Florida communities through partnerships with schools, churches, colleges, businesses and community organizations.
“I don’t want our growth to simply be measured by how many events we host or how large the organization becomes. Instead, I want it to be measured by the lives we touch and inspire,” James says.
The name Flowers for Fathers represents appreciation, acknowledgment, encouragement and love.
“Far too often, we wait until funerals to publicly speak about the value a man brought to his family or community. At that point, he can no longer hear those words, see those flowers, or understand the impact he made. We want to give fathers their flowers now,” James says.
James is inviting businesses, schools, churches, community leaders, parents, grandparents, mentors and residents across Lake and Sumter counties to get involved.
