Paws for the Cause Fur Ball

For one night, animal lovers trade leashes for evening wear as the Paws for the Cause Fur Ball draws the community together to support animals throughout Sumter County.

The annual fundraiser benefits the Humane Society of Sumter County and the animals and pet owners served through its shelter and community programs. While the Fur Ball offers guests an elegant night out, its purpose reaches well beyond the ballroom.

Each year brings a different theme and a chance for supporters to dress for the occasion. In 2025, the Fur Ball transformed the Savannah Center in The Villages with a Victorian theme, drawing a sold-out crowd in formal attire and period-inspired accessories. Tickets sold for $100 each. Wildwood Police Chief Randy Parmer served as honorary chairman.

The evening featured a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner, presentations and dancing to Evolution Motown. The event also included a salute to law enforcement K-9s, recognizing the working dogs and handlers who serve communities throughout the area.

Proceeds from Paws for the Cause help support the Humane Society’s work in Sumter County, including programs that address needs beyond traditional shelter and adoption services.

The Hope Fund provides assistance for animals needing significant medical treatment, while the Kibbles pet food pantry helps people experiencing financial hardship continue feeding their pets. Spay and neuter assistance helps reduce unwanted litters and provides another resource for pet owners who might otherwise struggle with the cost of veterinary care.

Those programs reflect a broader goal of helping animals while also helping people keep the pets in their families.

The Fur Ball draws attention to that mission by bringing together animal advocates, volunteers, sponsors, community leaders and supporters for an evening built around a shared concern for animal welfare.

Behind the formal wear, music and festivities are animals waiting for homes, pets needing medical care and families who sometimes need a little help caring for the animals they love.

That combination of celebration and purpose has made the Paws for the Cause Fur Ball a standout Sumter County tradition, turning one memorable evening into support that continues long after the last dance.
