FDOT to Begin Roadway Improvement Project on US 27/SR 25 in Leesburg

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin work on a 2.2-mile stretch of US 27/SR 25, from County Road (CR) 33 to Middlesex Road, as part of a roadway improvement project designed to extend the life of the roadway and enhance overall safety and traffic operations. The project is expected to be completed by late Fall 2025.

Construction activities will take place during both daytime and nighttime hours. While most milling and resurfacing operations are scheduled to occur overnight to minimize traffic disruptions, lane closures may still be necessary during the day. Motorists are advised to slow down and use extra caution while traveling through the construction zone.

Planned Improvements Include:

  • Addition of a southbound right turn lane to southbound CR 25A near the Lake County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Support Facility.

  • Removal of the obsolete “Y intersection” on the west side of US 27 to improve the roadway connection at CR 25A north, across from Saxon Road.

  • Drainage enhancements and construction of a short sidewalk segment, connecting Lakeside Apartments to the existing sidewalk north of CR 25A along northbound US 27.

  • Base work, shoulder treatment, drainage upgrades, curb and gutter, bike lane construction, new sidewalk, signage, and pavement markings throughout the project limits.

FDOT encourages drivers to plan ahead and stay informed of any changes in traffic patterns during the construction period. Updates will be provided regularly through official FDOT communication channels.
