Former South Sumter High Football Player Trevor Moffitt Commits To Gardner-Webb University

Former South Sumter football linebacker Trevor Moffitt, who was a former All-Area Defensive Player of the Year for South Sumter High School, has been playing football for Appalachian State since graduating from South Sumter in 2021. Moffitt entered the transfer portal and will play for Gardner-Webb for the 2024 season.

For those who don’t know how good Moffitt really was in high school, he finished his senior season with 83 tackles, 28 tackles for a loss, and 8 sacks. He helped South Sumter reach the Class 4A-Region 2 Championship Game. This kid hit hard and was one of the most feared defensive players in Sumter County.

Moffitt appeared in 11 games for Appalachian State in 2024. He finished the season with 7 tackles, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. The move to Gardner-Webb will be very exciting as Gardner-Webb is coming off of back-to-back Conference Championships in the NCAA Division 1 Championship Subdivision.

South Sumter, led by head coach Ty Lawrence, has sent plenty of linebackers off to college in recent years. South Sumter is one of the top schools in Lake & Sumter County as far as sending football players to big name programs. Coach Chris Gauntlett has done an incredible job helping the team in the weightroom and the entire coaching staff should be credited for what’s going on at South Sumter High. They just continue to impress me every year with how committed this team is to excellence.

We are very excited for Trevor Moffitt, and we wish him the best of luck as he transitions to Gardner-Webb!
