Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has passed away at the age of 100, according to media reports. Carter, who was the oldest living former president, leaves behind a legacy of service, diplomacy, and dedication to humanitarian causes.

Born in Plains, Georgia, Jimmy Carter rose to national prominence as a Democrat, defeating former President Gerald Ford in 1976 to serve a single term as president. His time in office was marked by significant events, including the Iran hostage crisis in November 1979, where 52 Americans were held captive for 444 days. Carter’s commitment to diplomacy remained steadfast, and on the day he left office, January 20, 1981, the hostages were released following continued negotiations.

In 2002, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his decades-long efforts to promote peace and avoid global conflict. Through the Carter Center, which he and his wife Rosalynn Carter founded in 1982, he worked tirelessly on initiatives such as eradicating disease, observing elections, and mediating international disputes.

Carter’s later years were spent quietly in his hometown, focusing on family and community. His dedication to public service remained evident even after stepping away from political life.

In his personal life, Carter shared a 77-year marriage with his wife, Rosalynn, who passed away in 2023. He attended her memorial service in Atlanta, wrapped in a blanket embroidered with her image, symbolizing their enduring bond.

More details to follow as they are released.
