BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 24 ranked Florida Atlantic softball team has received a weekly honor from the American Athletic Conference, with Destiny Johns from Groveland earning honorable mention. Johns who is a graduate of South Lake High School and is a freshman at FAU, has had an awesome start to the season.

The Owls (24-4) have won an AAC accolade in each of the first four weeks of the 2025 season, two of them coming from a freshman.

With a .318 batting average with 27 hits, 25 RBIs, four doubles, two triples, four home runs, and nine walks this season, Johns is having a truly spectacular season. And that was to be expected considering Johns was one of the most dominant players in Lake County over the course of her career.

Johns capped off her senior season last year with a stellar .415 batting average, recording 39 hits, 20 RBIs, 35 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases. Her high school career was defined by both individual brilliance and team success. Johns played a key role in South Lake’s 2022 run to the FHSAA Class 5A State Championship game as a sophomore, where the Eagles narrowly fell to Middleburg 1-0. She helped her team reach the FHSAA Class 5A playoffs the past four years highlighted by a regional semifinal appearance in her junior season and two regional quarterfinals.

She is a fantastic player and she has contributed to the Owls success and top 25 ranking this season. It’s been fun to watch! Keep up the great work Destiny!
