A History of Firsts

For over 30 years, Mid Florida Eye Center has provided quality care to all those who enter their doors in Central Florida. When Dr. Jeffrey D. Baumann and Dr. Gregory J. Panzo opened Mid Florida Eye Center in 1987, they had a clear vision of making it a comprehensive multi-specialty practice where patients could receive general eye care, surgical eye care, and laser eye care under one roof. In 1992, Mid Florida Eye Center opened the area’s first surgery center dedicated solely to eyes. When Dr Maizel came to Mid Florida, he became the first Retina specialist to practice in Lake County. In 2008, Mid Florida Eye Center opened a new 8,000-square-foot Ambulatory Surgical Center in the Stonecrest location of The Villages. This eye surgery facility was the first one in The Villages, dedicated completely to eyes. Drs. Keith Charles and Shawn Wilker of Mid Florida Eye Center have contributed to numerous clinical trials regarding the latest procedures, treatments, and devices and have a strong commitment to being innovators in the field of ophthalmology. With a history of firsts, the physicians at Mid Florida Eye Center bring blend technology and experience to maintain and restore visual health. 

Cataract Specialists: Restoring Mid Florida Eye’s Vision

The cataract specialists at Mid Florida Eye Center have restored the vision of 100,000+ cataract and laser procedures patients. Recently, Dr. Baumann became the first surgeon in Mid Florida to implement the PanOptix multifocal advanced technology lens, and Dr. Panzo became one of the first to implement the Vivity multifocal advanced technology lens. Drs. Keith Charles, MD and Gregory J. Panzo, MD received 1st and 2nd place in Lake & Sumter Style Magazine’s Best of the Best — Ophthalmologist category this year.
