Kayla Young Rows Toward Bronze and a Bright Future

Kayla Young

How it began: I originally became interested in rowing when I moved to Clermont. I signed up for summer camp and immediately fell in love with it. I have been rowing for five years now.
Greatest achievement: Obtaining 3rd place at Florida’s Sculling State Championship in the Lightweight single event.
My goals: I am working on graduating high school with my Associates Degree in engineering alongside being a student/athlete.
Pre-game ritual: Before a race, I take a few moments to focus up and get my head in the right space.
When I’m not competing: I love to wakesurf and travel, as well as play with my dogs.
Topping my playlist: Ariana Grande’s new song, “Hate That I Made You Love Me.”
I look up to: Simone Biles, because she is proof that you can push through hard things even when they seem impossible.
My message: Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Future plans: I’d love to go to college for psychology and eventually become a peer counselor.
Hidden talent: I am exceptionally good at making jewelry of all kinds.
