Tonight marks the highly anticipated kickoff of the FHSAA Girls Basketball District Tournaments in Lake County. The stage is set for an exhilarating series of games that will unfold over the next few days, promising intense matchups and fierce competition.

In Class 4A District 6

All eyes are on Dunnellon as the clear favorites for the district championship. However, Umatilla, with the talented Herva Brutus leading the charge as the #4 seed, poses a formidable challenge. The game between The Villages and Umatilla holds the potential for a playoff-like atmosphere, with both teams eyeing postseason berths. Eustis faces a pivotal moment, especially if they encounter an upset against Dunnellon. The district hangs in the balance, with upsets and playoff dreams at stake.

Mount Dora High had some travel issues so their game against Eustis will be at Eustis this evening at 6pm. All other games the rest of the tournament will be held at The Villages Charter High School. Umatilla High School plays South Sumter at 6pm and Lake Weir plays The Villages at 7:30pm.

Class 5A District 5

Showcases the dominance of the Leesburg Lady Yellow Jackets. As the #1 seed with a remarkable 20-1 record, they are determined to secure both the district and state championship this season. Lecanto emerges as a strong contender, likely to face off against Leesburg in the finals. Despite Vanguard and Tavares having only four wins each, Leesburg’s path to victory will not be taken lightly.

In Class 6A District 6

Horizon and Wekiva lead the pack, but Lake Minneola emerges as a potential threat. With a 15-7 record, Lake Minneola aims for an upset against Wekiva, creating a playoff-like atmosphere. The battle between these three teams – Horizon, Wekiva, and Lake Minneola – keeps the district on edge.

Class 7A District 3

This district sees East Ridge High School facing an uphill battle for FHSAA playoff contention. Ranked outside the top 32, they need victories against Evans and Apopka to secure a potential spot. Ocoee remains the favorites, but East Ridge has a shot at upsetting Apopka, making their next two games pivotal.

In Class 1A District 7

A perennial contender, enjoys a bye in the first round. Poised to face either Dixie County or Chiefland, Wildwood aims for redemption after two consecutive state championship losses. Once the FHSAA Playoffs start, they will likely be the favorites to head to the state championship game again. But first they look to win their district championship.

Class 2A District 6

This district features MDCA as the top seed, poised for FHSAA Playoff entry. Their matchup against either Halifax Academy or Lake Mary Prep on Wednesday is crucial, with MDCA positioned as favorites for the district championship. A loss against Lake Mary or Halifax makes things interesting but MDCA has a very good chance at making the district championship in 2024.

Tonight, the Lake County Girls Basketball Districts unfold, promising an electrifying start to a week filled with suspense, upsets, and the pursuit of championship dreams. Get ready for a night of intense basketball action!
