Oh man! This game looked like a blowout on paper, but when you think of the historic significance this game will have in a couple of years, its plain to see why this was such an amazing game to attend. Alvon Isaac who came into the evening off a 5 touchdown performance against Citrus High School matched that performance Friday night! Alvon Isaac is the first Villages Buffalo player in history to record back to back 5 touchdown games! A feat that may never be matched! In fact he has a chance to make history again as potentially the only player in Lake County History to do it 3 times in a row when The Villages Face Eustis next Friday night. 

We will have a full wrap up for you in Monday’s edition of Friday Night Lights Weekend Wrap-up but this game was a fantastic performance from start to finish for The Buffalo who took care of business and look forward to a divisional matchup vs Eustis next Friday Night. 

Friday night lights got started off Thursday night with an amazing game between two programs that fought to the bitter end. What a tough loss this was for South Lake as they could taste their first victory of the season but it just slipped through their grasp. South lake was down 27-18 entering the 4th quarter where they put up 29 points but ultimately lost by one. On the flip side this is a terrific win for a Mount Dora team that desperately needed the victory. They now improve to 2-2 on the season and have a winnable matchup when they take on Umatilla at home next Friday night at 7pm. As much of a stinger this was for South Lake they did manage to score their highest total points of the season and managed to nearly win a game. That win cant be far off in the future for this team. As for Mount Dora they escape a 4th quarter defensive collapse and look forward to bigger and better things.

The biggest game Friday night was this one! South Sumter came into the game undefeated and kept that streak going completely dismantling Mitchell High School. Mitchell lead 3-0 in the first quarter of the game but that was the last time they lead. South Sumter went on to decimate the Mitchell High School defense and improve to an impressive 5-0 on the season. Even with the loss Mitchell is still above 500 on the season at 3-2 but they have to be left scratching their heads after South Sumter delivered a difficult pill to swallow. The schedule gets fairly easy for South Sumter in the coming weeks with games against Crystal River and Zephyrhills. As for Mitchell the next time they will play in Lake County will be against The Villages on October 7th. 

A pretty standard win for Palatka as they came into Lake Weir and took care of business. The win moves Palatka to 4-0 on the season while Lake Weir stays winless on the season at 0-5. With games against Atlantic from Port Orange and Williston on the schedule it’s not exactly the easiest road to a first victory for the hurricanes. As for Palatka we wish them the best of luck on their season as they try to remain undefeated. They won’t be playing in Lake or Sumter county the remainder of the year as they face district rivals Tocoi Creek and Space Coast for their upcoming contests. 

Mainland got a much deserved victory. They trailed early in the first quarter 7-3 but piled on 15 points in the second quarter and never looked back after that. For Mainland it improves their season record to 4-1 on the season and they have what should be an easy matchup against Pine Ridge from Deltona next Friday. Meanwhile Lake Minneola was handed its first loss of the season and still have a very respectable record of 4-1 on the year. They have a big home game against The West Port Wolfpack next Friday night. It should be a real barn burner of a football game next week as West port is coming off a relatively easy night where they beat Gateway 26-0. Look for this game to be a feature next weekend. 

Close your eyes on this one. This game got out of hand quickly. Wildwood improves to 4-1 on the season. The Wildcats couldn’t be stopped on offense and Akelynn’s just couldn’t get the offense going. Wildwood next faces Union County from Lake Butler Florida at home next weekend before turning their attention to Chiefland on October 7th. AS for Akelynn’s we wish them the best of luck on their football season and perhaps they might be able to turn things around.
