Leesburg High Girls Weightlifting Team Has A 14 Year Home Win Streak

The Leesburg High School girls weightlifting team has an unprecedented 14-year home win streak, a testament to the dedication and perseverance of both the athletes and their coach.

Since 2009, the girls have not faltered in their home weightroom called The Blair McLin Memorial Weight Room, showcasing an unmatched dominance in Lake County. While tournaments in the gymnasium may have seen occasional setbacks, The Streak inside Blair McLin Memorial Weight Room remains untarnished.

(14 years it has been since Leesburg has lost a match inside their own weightlifting room.)

The team is already off to a hot start. Leesburg Weightlifting head coach Josh Boyer, a driving force behind the team’s success, expressed confidence in this year’s squad. “We are off to a great start! This is probably my most talented girls team across the board,” Boyer remarked. “Our expectation is to win the State Championship this season.” E’mia Jones already unoficially broke the state record by putting up an insane 400lbs of weight combined recently.

This lofty goal aligns with the broader aspirations of Leesburg High’s athletic director, Spencer Hey. “I want to win at least 5 to 6 state championships this year,” Hey stated, already reveling in the boys Bowling team’s State Championship earlier in the season.

Reflecting on the origins of their triumphs, Coach Boyer harked back to the pioneers of 2009. “That was the group who truly began what we have grown into today. They started a culture that has been passed down from one group to the next,” Boyer said. “Along the way, I had to continue learning, studying, attending clinics, and asking questions to accomplished coaches to be an even better coach for the next group.”

While the journey to this point has been arduous, the Leesburg High girls persistently defend their home weight room. The remarkable streak stands as a testament to the team’s unwavering commitment and the enduring legacy forged by those who came before. It truly is an incredible statistic and every year it seems the girls and boys teams continue to get better.

The durability of such streaks is unpredictable, as witnessed by the end of iconic sports legacies. Yet, Leesburg remains resolute in its pursuit of perpetual success. As the girls strive for State Championship glory, the community rallies behind them, hoping to witness the continuation of this remarkable chapter in local sports history.
