It was a very exciting day and a long time coming for the Leesburg Yellow Jacket community as an exciting project finally finished. The Leesburg High School finished the brand new state of the art Family Lounge. The project continues a trend of recent projects to renovate the aging High School and bring it up to modern standards.

At the ceremony was Principal Michael Randolf who has been front and center at getting the High School renovated. Randolf is just part of the puzzle as many members of the school and community have been enthusiastic about the projects. Such a member of our community includes Kenny Edwards a Leesburg Police Officer who also coaches the Soccer team. Edwards gives his entire salary back to the school athletics program for equipment.

Spencer Hey who is Leesburg’s Athletic Director has also been a huge proponent of not only the athletic teams but the continued revitalization of the school facilities. The Family Lounge is presented by Florida Cancer Specialists, Ryan Foundation, & Church of The Lakes. Through their generous donations, the school was able to put together a fantastic product.

The transformation of the family lounge area has been a great project run by students. Principal Randolf has taken many photos of the construction over the past few months and it came out better than anyone could have hoped. The room is painted in a nice relaxing blue color, There are couches to relax on and positive quotes on the walls. The room also has a chess set, a dart board, two TV sets, a pool table, snack and drink shelves and more. In all it looks like a very nice lounge. Well done to everyone who took part in bringing it to life.

Leesburg has always done a great job of renovating existing structures instead of tearing them down. The rich history of Leesburg dates all the way back to the 1960s when they became one of the first integrated schools in Florida. The Family Lounge joins a plethora of projects either finished or currently undergoing renovations. Those include the new Athletics Lounge facility, the new Family Lounge and currently the school gym, which is undergoing an extensive refurbishment of the floor, sound system and other aesthetics which should help out that athletic facility immensely.

(The Lounge features two TV screens and plenty of engaging activities.)

We look forward to the further improvements the school intends to make. A big shout out to the Leesburg Construction Academy who really did an amazing job putting this together. The Lounge will be enjoyed by future members of the Leesburg High School Community. This is a positive project that benefits everyone involved. Congratulations on a job well done! Down below we have attached more images of the new facility.
