Local Radio Station WQBQ Prohibited from Broadcasting at George Jenkins High School

WQBQWQBQWQBQWQBQ, a local radio station in Leesburg, has been prohibited from broadcasting the Tavares High School football game against George Jenkins High School tonight.

James Floyd, WQBQ’s station manager, let the public know in a social media post this afternoon. George Jenkins High School reportedly told the radio station “Absolutely Not” and that the radio broadcast crew would be barred from entering the stadium if they appeared this evening.

“They told this to us about 32 hours ago and said that they were doing this to encourage ticket sales,” James says. “Even the NFL abandoned this practice years ago. This is a shame for the young men who work so hard all year for the season. Denying them the right to get press and allow more people to follow their play, is nothing short of shameful.”

(George Jenkins High hopes that by barring WQBQ from broadcasting that Tavares High fans will attend the game increasing ticket sales. Tavares has long been known for packing the stands home or away for football games.)

Unfortunately, since George Jenkins told WQBQ that they cannot broadcast the game, the radio station is standing down as there is no option for any broadcast to go forward.

“I just want to thank all of our amazing sponsors, our amazing broadcast team, and our amazing football players who play for Tavares High School,” James says. “God Bless you guys tonight, and LET’s GO Dawgs!”

WQBQ has indicated that they will instead be broadcasting the Leesburg High School at Vanguard High football game this evening at 7:30pm.
